The homeowners policy is a “package” of coverages that were once offered in the form of many different policies. While the most popular form of coverage on an owned dwelling is an “HO-3” policy, there are comparable packages for condominiums (the HO-6 form) and for renters (the HO-4 form). Think of these forms as buying a “platter of coverages” rather than “a la carte”. Even though there can be many enhancements, not all carrier forms are alike. There are several carriers who specialize in offering exceptionally broader coverage designed for the unique needs of the more affluent homeowner. These policies may allow the ability to cover multiple locations under one package, higher limits than most carriers are able to offer, and other features not always available under a standard “HO-3” policy form. We have extensive experience in placing coverage for homes in challenging locations such as waterfronts. In these cases, coverage is not always available due to a limited supply of carriers willing to offer wind coverage. Terms and conditions vary by state, but we have worked with many satisfied clients to place this coverage under a variety of different circumstances.
